  Partners

Individuals, businesses, groups, and organizations from Oconee County and surrounding counties have given their support and/or volunteered time to help make this river walk become a reality.  A full listing of these will eventually be included on the web site.  One of the most important partners is the Athens Land Trust.  They have agreed to be the holder of any conservation easements on the river walk land.  The importance of this might not be immediately clear.  In order to make the donation of the conservation easement by landowners legal and allow the tax incentives for such a donation, a bonafide Land Trust must be the holder of the easement on the land.  The land trust will help each landowner write their conservation easement.  The easement is a legal document.  The land trust thereafter holds and enforces the easement.
